About this site
After Tax Salary is a UK-focused index for understanding what a salary looks like after Income Tax and National Insurance. We pair plain-English guides with reference figures so you can compare offers, minimum wage rates and average pay with clearer take-home context.
Where the numbers come from
National earnings references lean on the Office for National Statistics Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings. Minimum wage figures follow GOV.UK National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage rates. Take-home illustrations use simplified HMRC-style Income Tax and employee National Insurance rules for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland has different Income Tax bands — we call that out where it matters.
What this is not
This site is not a payroll product, tax adviser or substitute for your payslip. Pension contributions, student loans, benefits in kind and tax codes change the final figure. Use ourcalculatorfor a quick estimate, then confirm with official guidance or your employer.
